Previous Situation
The City of Italy faced rising infrastructure challenges as deeper groundwater extraction—required to meet statewide demand—produced well temperatures exceeding 90°F. These elevated temperatures increased operational stress on equipment, raised maintenance costs, and created conditions that can support general microbiological activity, making pre-distribution cooling important for maintaining water quality.
The city’s previous cooling setup was mostly manual and highly unreliable. Operators depended on non-integrated equipment sourced from multiple vendors, leading to frequent breakdowns, extended downtime, limited redundancy, and inconsistent maintenance practices. Without automation or real-time monitoring, operators could not track system performance, anticipate failures, or maintain stable drinking-water quality. Over time, the system simply became unsustainable.
Rising maintenance costs and operational risks made it clear that a more proactive, automated thermal-management solution with centralized remote controls and single-vendor responsibility helped address the city’s challenges.
DESIRED SITUATION
The City of Italy sought a fully integrated, automatically controlled cooling system capable of removing excess heat from the potable water supply with minimal operator involvement. Key requirements included:

Applied Climate Solutions (ACS), in partnership with REYMSA Cooling Towers, delivered a single-source, factory-engineered Packaged Cooler System certified by the Cooling Technology Institute (CTI) in accordance with CTI Standard STD-201. The system provides 6,726,377 BTU/h of cooling capacity and a 715 GPM pump, purpose-built for the City of Italy’s municipal water application.

The single-source design minimized construction time, eliminated multi-vendor coordination challenges, and ensured consistent performance from day one.
